Empower Program
Quality Schools International (QSI) strives to provide a positive, safe, and supportive environment in each of our schools. QSI believes it is essential that children have a safe and secure environment in which to develop, thrive, and be successful, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, cultural background, disability, religion, personal beliefs, and socioeconomic status. Because of this, QSI will be implementing EMPOWER as a curriculum that encompasses Success Orientations (SO), social-emotional learning (SEL), and child protection (CP). The EMPOWER curriculum aligns with the QSI Success Orientations and the QSI Child Safeguarding and Protection Policy.
The EMPOWER program is an evidence-based, comprehensive child development curriculum. EMPOWER was created collaboratively with QSI teachers, counselors, and administrators. The curriculum is based on the Center for Academic and Social Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework, International School Counselors Association (ISCA) scope and sequence, the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) standards, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC) best practices for child protection curriculum. Each of these organizations is a renowned organization in its field.
The curriculum interweaves the Success Orientations, Social Emotional Learning concepts, and Child Protection concepts with individual lessons throughout the year. It will be taught during a weekly class time dedicated to EMPOWER. These lessons will give students a well-rounded set of skills to help them throughout their lives.
Specific lessons for each grade are developmentally appropriate for that age level. Concepts might be repeated each year; however, the lessons will be different depending on the age of the students. Teachers will be communicating with parents about the lessons that will be taught to your child/children.
